Text Legibility at Thumbnail Sizes

Your OG image will be displayed much smaller than you design it. These tips ensure text remains readable.

1

Use 40px+ font size for titles

Your 1200×630 image may display as small as 300×157. Text that looks fine at full size becomes unreadable at thumbnail scale.

2

Limit text to 5-7 words max

Long headlines get truncated or become too small to read. Front-load the most important words.

3

High contrast is essential

Dark text on light backgrounds (or vice versa) with contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1. Avoid subtle grays.

4

Safe zone: center 80%

Some platforms crop edges. Keep critical content (logo, title) within the center 80% of the image.

5

Test at actual render sizes

Preview your image at 400×210 (Discord/ChatGPT size) before finalizing. If you can't read it, neither can users.
